Computer Audit

Whilst often viewed as an independent activity, computer audit should provide an integral part of internal audit function. Computer audit involves the application of established audit principles to the practice of computing. The primary areas for computer audit focus are:

  • Systems under development - as the name suggests, audit involvement during the development of new business applications;

  • Application systems - are the computer applications which enable the organisation to provide and administer its core services;

  • The computing environment - is the ‘infrastructure' which supports and enables application systems to operate. This includes the operating systems on which key applications run, the local and wide area networks that enable the sharing of data and hardware, and the links that enable the organisation to utilise public network services such as the World Wide Web; and

  • Data Integrity - In today's global economy we utilise IT to communicate with our customers, clients, employees, colleagues and the world at large. Sadly when we open the virtual gateway, the uninvited may walk-in. There is a solution; devise and implement a robust security strategy which will not only deter the uninvited guest but can also filter out harmful viruses.

HWIAS has information systems control and ISO 17799 specialists on hand to help. If you believe your systems are secure, insecure or under-threat why not let us put them to the test, invite our specialists to undertake a controlled Penetration Test on your IT infrastructure, at best you will be re-assured, at worst we will be in a position to formulate an improvement plan.
